Step One
Use the Internet to locate a resort that interests you and that is an example of the type of resort in question for the specific resort analysis you are completing.
After you have identified a resort, analyze the resort and answer/complete the following for each resort selected (for each resort analysis entry – remember four analyses total, one for each type of resort: mountain based, beach, golf-based and spa, pool, indoor waterpark or cruise ship):
Describe the resort in detail to include the location and site, level of service, amenities, activities, food and beverage, retail, price, and any other key features. Provide a very thorough summary of the resort.
Who is the target market for this resort? Who visits this resort/this type of resort and why?
What is one key consideration for building/designing/managing/operating this specific type of resort?
For example, for mountain-based resorts a consideration when building/designing a mountain based resort is that the design of the ski area must conform to existing physical site and the difficulty of slopes should be matched with the ability of skiers. For beach resorts, a consideration when building a beach resort is that a variety of factors related to the sea affect the attractiveness of the site.
Describe one example of a changing trend related to this type of resort/an important moment in the development of this type of resort and how it impacted the industry for this specific type of resort.
For example, for mountain based resorts, many innovations in the 1950s helped popularize the sport (of skiing). For example, for beach resorts, in 1987, the Blue Flag concept began as an eco-label “certifying” beaches (and later marinas) as meeting quality standards relating to water quality, environmental management, and safety and services.
Identify and describe one current (last year) trend that is impacting this specific type of resort. Describe the issue or trend in detail. What are the implications for owners/operators/managers of this resort?
For example, for a mountain based resort in the Pacific Northwest/West Coast, the recent increase in annual wildfires is an example.
Describe one thing you found most interesting about this type of resort and why you found it interesting. In other words, what was your one most important takeaway after learning more about this type of resort?
