The obesity epidemic has become a major health concern, especially with a three-fold increase in the last three decades among school-aged children (Office of Health Assessment and Epidemiology, 2011). In fact, many children in low socioeconomic household are growing up with fast-food as a staple food source in their diet that greatly contributes towards childhood obesity. Furthermore, childhood obesity has a direct correlation with adult obesity by further developing into various health issues (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2013). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking ways to develop intervention programs in the public elementary schools and the corresponding community around the public elementary schools aimed at sensitizing students, faculty, parents and staff to the problems of childhood obesity and promote both healthy food choices and exercise that is more physical.
Your task is to help develop an intervention program that helps involve students, parents, faculty and staff to identify the causes of obesity, promote healthy food choices and increase physical exercise.
