In many careers, employees are required to write proposals that persuade others how to resolve specific problems. For this assignment, you will identify a specific problem related to your current or future career and then provide a solution that resolves this issue. Students will need to consider their purpose, audience and context:
Exactly what are you proposing? Why? What measurable, testable outcome do you want to result from your proposal?
Who is your audience? What are your audience’s needs, attitudes, and concerns in relation to the issue? To what degree might he or she resist change?
How is this proposal related to the company’s roles mission and policies? Is it affected by broader cultural, social, or global forces?
Students will also need to research the problem and possible solutions:
Students will research the background and history of the problem.
Break the problem into parts, investigate causes and effects.
Review solutions attempted in the past, noting successes and failures.
Identify and study all possible solutions with the goal of choosing the best solution to resolve the problem
Consider ethical dimensions of both the problem and your proposal.
Your proposal could be either internal or external; this will depend on the problem that you selected and your audience.
