DB4 Cognitive Development in Middle & Early Childhood – Visual Representations.
This week we’re going to do something a bit different. Y’all are going to CREATE an original visual representation or demonstration of ONE of the tasks listed below.
- conservation of number
- conservation of mass
- conservation of volume
- 3 mountain task
- class inclusion
In your original post you will:
- name the task you have chosen
- briefly describe how the task that you have chosen is conducted
- CREATE an original visual OR an original video that explains and depicts the task
- indicate the performance of a neurotypical child in Piaget’s preoperational stage of development
- indicate the performance of a neurotypical child in Piaget’s concrete operational stage of development
- include APA formatted citations for the source(s) of information you used to identify points #2, 3, and 4 above
- Your video can be: of an actual child (between the ages of 3 and 7) performing the task OR of an adult pretending to be a child performing the task (in which case they should pretend to be a preoperational child and then also pretend to be a concrete operational child).
- And because I realize that not everyone has access to a video camera or wants to make a video, you have the option of creating a drawing of the task – by hand (and then photographing it and uploading it to your DB post) or digitally. I’ve done this in my sample because Giulia is too young to participate in these tasks.
In your reply posts you will
- reply to two classmates who chose a task DIFFERENT than the one you chose – each reply must be on a different concept
- if you choose to reply to 2 classmates who chose the same task you will receive 0 points for reply post 2
- you will find a video online (e.g. on YouTube) of the concept and will link it – make sure the video you link is an accurate depiction of the concept
- **how is the video the same or different than the video/picture that your classmate posted? Include an APA formatted in text reference in your post
- you will cite the video using APA formatting
For this week ONLY, regular word limits for the original and reply posts do not apply this week because the format is more reliant on visual representations rather than verbal representations.
