Within your analysis you will need to provide a summary of the book that includes a description of the major characters and events throughout. Then, using at least 5 examples from the book, describe aspects of James that are indicative of a child with an intellectual disability. That is, what developmental milestones are different? In what ways does James process or interact with the world around him differently? In addition, using at least 5 examples from the book, describe how James is typical of most boys. Finally, reflect on how James’ disability has affected the family’s identity. That is, what insights does the family have that they may not have otherwise had if James did not have an intellectual disability? How do you think these insights will affect the family as James grows older? What lessons does this story hold for educators who will have students like James in their classrooms one day?
