An anthropological view of sex and gender.
There are multiple ways of discussing gender, sex, and sexuality. Gender can be viewed as the culturally conceived masculinity and femininity and all that runs between; or as a choice [either because of feeling one is in the wrong body – trans – or as a way to change one’s standing in the world]. Sex and sexuality can be about the acts of sex [that can be nearly ANYTHING] or about who one prefers to have sex with; or describing the physical attributes that internally and externally produce females, males and intersexed peoples. Gender can also speak to the politics of who is in charge of societies and whether there are disparities between the genders. I would like you to choose some subject within these very broad and very slippery categories to research and discuss. You’ll need multiple sources outside of the class materials. Here are some YouTube choices.
